"The Navy, The Treasures, Valor Records and Me"

I will not dwell here long.  I learned to play the guitar quickly and refined my vocals, and while in the Navy, formed a new band, "The Treasures".  This was a six piece group, I went to vocal/guitar, and we had keyboard, sax, bass, guitar and drums.  We played together until we retired at the end of 1981.  We recorded several records that we sold mostly at performances and also used the Valor label.  Recordings were done in Spain, California and Virginia.

Why did I use both names?  My personal attachment, of course,  to the bands name, and I was involved in the name selection of Valor for the record label before I had to leave.  I also believed that what I was leaving behind, would not be around much longer.

The only break was the year I spent in the British West Indies, where a trio called "The Reflections" was formed.  Though I got liberty back in the states, I found this band very refreshing.  They have their own site.

My heart will always be with Leonard, Dave, Bryon, Mike, Bob (deceased), Frances, Paul and Don.

When I joined the Navy, I left The Treasures drum skin with the band.  Years later, Don returned the skin to me.  It has since been framed, and the total cost to me from beginning to end is $115, and has been given a street value of at least $300 (buyer demand applies of course), which is what I have been offered for it.  However, my son wants it, so it stays with the family.

"Epilogue"

It would be very hard to say who would be the best four members of  The Treasures. Some came with some obvious previous talent and experience, that would be Dave Harmon and Leonard Misheski.  Some came with a raw talent that quickly developed with the inspiration of being in a band.  Among those would be Bob Carroll, Paul Hubbard, Don Formanek Jr, Mike Kondos and Jerry Jacobsen.  All the others I am sure had the talent to go on, but I never knew them well enough or long enough.  I hope they continued to grow as musicians.

Among my friends, I am proud to list Leonard, Dave, Bob, Paul, Don, Mike and Frances.  Despite some problems, I always hoped they felt the same.

Frances kept in contact for awhile.  Mike and Dave I was never able to locate.  I was reunited with Leonard, Paul and Don in May and June 2004. Bob has left us.

I was with Bob right up to his sudden death.  We lived about 8 miles from each other, I in Wausau  WI  and Bob in Rothschild  WI.  We were cowriting, and he was a typical frustrated musician.  He died of heart problems, just as he walked off stage in 1991.  They said he was dead before he hit the floor.  I truly miss my friend and the music he helped me refine.

There are many memories Don and Paul have on tape and in my heart for our time together.

There were two articles on The Treasures, but elected not to put them here.  One from the Red River Scene "Teen Talk" by Mark Satin and the other appeared in the "Lost and Found".  They both contained some inaccurate facts.

Bob, Leonard and I were close.  We performed, recorded, played and did model railroading together.  Losing Bob was like losing a brother.

Leonard, Paul and Bob would have been a great team (like a Ventures trio).  With the addition of Don, this would have been an unbeatable team in my opinion.  Of course I would remain as the drummer and that makes five.

I hope you enjoyed this section.  I will only be upgrading if I get worthwhile photos, correction and additions (all will be my call).  If you want to see updates to this site, email me, and will add you to my list.
